Associate Scientist I

Overview:

The Associate Scientist I receives sufficient authority from, and is accountable to the Laboratory Supervisor or appointed designate for the successful completion of assigned duties and responsibilities and has the authority to take action necessary to carry out the duties and responsibilities of this position and to identify the occurrence of departures from the quality system or from the procedures for performing tests and/or calibrations, so long as such action does not deviate from established company guidelines, is consistent with sound technical and business judgment, and follows the practices of the laboratory.

Objectives and Responsibilities

  1. Understand and follow Quality System documents relevant to responsibilities, e.g., Quality Manual, SOPs, and Methods.
  2. Adhere to, and assist laboratory staff in adhering to, appropriate quality measures to meet or exceed the standards set by ISO/IEC 17025, government regulatory (cGMP, GLP), and company requirements relevant to assigned duties.
  3. Adhere to all health, safety, and environmental regulations relative to assigned analyticl work; maintain and assist others in maintaining a clean, safe work environment.
  4. Perform timely and accurate analysis of samples to meet customer commitments, including but not limited to, preparing samples for analysis, using appropriate analysis methods and techniques, applying appropriate data review and reduction, and providing data interpretation and opinion.
  5. Operate, troubleshoot, clean, calibrate/qualify, and maintain sophisticated instruments, such as gas chromatograph (GC), high performance liquid chromatorgraph (HPLC), and Cepillary Electrophoresis (CE) instruments.
  6. Maintain a neat and accurate record system; keep accurate records of work performed on a daily basis and as needed for quality control tests or regulatory purposes.
  7. Record test data and results for samples in logbook, record book, or BookMaster and enter the data or results into eLIMS either manually or through automatic export, in a timely and accurate manner.
  8. Conduct and document investigations when analysis results do not conform to specifications or expected levels and when non-conformances to the quality system and/or customer expectations are identified.
  9. Create and review reports.
  10. Plan resource allocations so that project deadlines are met.
  11. Create and review literature for marketing new methods and instrument capabilities to clients.
  12. Remain current on technical, industry, and business advancements and trends as suggested by supervisor.
  13. Maintain cooperative working relationships with all company employees. Communicate orally and in writing to co-workers. This includes “intra” and “inter” departmental employees.
  14. Promote the company image through the exercising of sound and ethical business practices as related to the public and our customers.
  15. Ensure that proprietary methodologies are not disclosed to non-employees except as approved in writing by the Laboratory Manager or appointed designate.
  16. Other duties, as assigned.

Preferred Educational Background

B.S or B.A in Chemistry or Life Sciences
