The Atlanta BeltLine is a $4.8 billion urban revitalization project being developed for the City of Atlanta, Georgia by Atlanta BeltLine, Inc. – a Georgia non‐profit private development corporation. The Atlanta BeltLine program of projects includes 22 miles of modern streetcar/light rail transit,33 miles of urban trails, 2,000 acres of new and renovated parkland, 46 miles of new complete streets and streetscape improvements, a vigorous and expansive public art program, historic preservation, and 1,100 acres of brownfield reclamation, all of which will support the creation of 28,000 mixed income housing units (including 5,600 affordable workforce units) and 30,000 permanent and 48,000 one‐year construction jobs.


The Design Director plays a critical role in the planning, design, coordination and management of BeltLine programs and projects. The Design Director will report to the Chief Operating Officer, but will serve in an advisory role to the Chief Executive Officer in concert with other directors. Significant coordination will be necessary with major BeltLine partners, including the City of Atlanta, the Atlanta BeltLine Partnership, PATH Foundation, Trust for Public Land, MARTA, and others; along with various other BeltLine stakeholders.  




Responsible for the conceptualization, prioritization, funding, design, bidding and construction of a wide variety of public infrastructure projects, including roads and streetscapes, parks, trails, etc., valued at hundreds of millions of dollars. Coordinates with other ABI Directors, Program Managers, and Project Managers responsible for the management of BeltLine planning and design efforts for several concurrent projects.  Also, significant time will be used to lead the next generation of planning for the Art on the Atlanta program, an initiative that has enjoyed significant participation over the years.


Integrates and designs various component programs, including Mobility, Open Space and Development. Responsibilities also include a wide range of policy and planning studies and the planning/design of transportation corridors, transit systems, greenways, parks streetscapes, signage, and public art. The Director also plays a key role in coordinating the design of planned projects with ongoing private sector development, including the provision of affordable/workforce housing and in efforts to preserve identified historic resources and districts throughout the BeltLine area.




Education/Experience:    Master’s Degree in Urban Planning, Architecture or related field from an accredited college or university, and fifteen years of progressively responsible experience in the management of planning, development and urban design programs.



                                          Bachelor’s Degree in Urban Planning, Architecture or related field from an accredited college or university, and nineteen years of progressively responsible experience in the management of planning, development and urban design programs.


Required Skills:                The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in the design and construction of a full range of public improvement projects, superior communication skills and demonstrated ability to work collaboratively, strong leadership and experience in managing multiple staff, and a commitment to the principles and potential underlying the BeltLine vision.
