Mission:  Design, test, release new products and support existing products.

 

 

Overall Scope:  Assists with new product designs meeting OPW and industry standards.  Designs new products with minimum supervision, recommends and carries out the maintenance of major changes.  Handles existing product maintenance as needed.

 

 

Responsibilities:

  • Assure that design and development tasks are carried out according to OPW process map.
  • Set up new part numbers by working closely with purchasing, vendors and accounting.
  • Develop and improve manufacturing processes with time studies, assembly line set up and assembly fixtures for existing products and new product releases.
  • Identify cost savings projects and designs. Complete these projects from start to finish on time and within budget.
  • Develop good working relationships with vendors to obtain quotes, prototypes and rework of parts.
  • Must have strong attention to detail to complete designs, maintain document control processes, ECN releases and creating BOMs & part number set up.
  • Develop, evaluate and improve manufacturing processes using various methods including: time studies, statistical methods and estimating future manufacturing requirements.
  • Coordinate all phases of development including creation, prototypes, testing and analysis.
  • Determine and establish specifications through engineering calculations and layouts.
  • Support Manufacturing, Purchasing, Quality Control, Sales, Marketing, Inventory Control, Production and Human Resources as needed
  • Operate in a team environment with other functional areas providing input to design solutions and participate in design reviews.
  • Participate in cost reduction programs and coordinate cost reductions as necessary.
  • Work closely with manufacturing to identify improvements and sustain existing products.
  • Encourage and foster an environment for new ideas and innovation.
  • Other activities as needed.

 

 

 

Requirements:

Education

  • Bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent design experience.

 

Experience

  • Minimum 5 years work experience in Design Engineering
  • 3D CAD experience with solid modeling. (NX preferred)
  • Background in Engineering Change Notice (ECN) process and Product Development Process (PDP) is a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to solicit the cooperation of others and positively influence the efforts and dynamics of work teams.
  • Professional presentation skills including persuasive communication skills, adept listening and highly developed interpersonal skills.
