Who we're looking for

Toyota's Legal Department is looking for a passionate and highly-motivated Paralegal.

The primary responsibility of this role is to support the defense of asbestos and other product-related lawsuits, general litigation, and other matters involving Toyota and Lexus vehicles and other Toyota affiliates in North America.

Reporting to a Managing Counsel, the person in this role will support the product law group's paralegal needs.

What you'll be doing
  • Assisting Managing Counsel with a caseload of asbestos and other product liability matters, general litigation, and other matters, including-investigation, research and gathering documents and information needed by Managing Counsel and outside counsel to respond to these matters
  • Review, edit, and coordinate verifications for discovery responses
  • Track and calendar important deadlines
  • Assist with routine pleading issues
  • Review, approve, and audit vendor bills
  • Coordinate facilitation of bills and other information to outside insurance liaison
  • Manage and update case related databases
  • Monitor and respond to correspondence including implementing litigation holds
  • Coordinate with TMC and affiliate companies to gather relevant documents and information
  • Supporting technical, manufacturing, warranty, Customer Experience Center, compliance, and other functions in coordination with Managing Counsel
  • Function effectively as part of the product law team, including maintaining effective and efficient communication among team members
  • Work with engineers and outside counsel on technical and other issues
  • Other projects and additional responsibilities, as assigned
What you bring
  • Paralegal certificate (ABA certified legal assistant program)
  • Bachelor's degree (or higher) and/or HS diploma with equivalent professional experience
  • Extensive law firm or corporate law department experience either in asbestos or automobile product liability lawsuits and/or regulatory fields (safety, environmental, privacy, customs/trade, antitrust)
  • Self-starter, problem solver, detailed-oriented, strong analytical, organizational, and case management skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and client relationship skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to take ownership/personal responsibility for performing tasks and resolving issues, including taking the initiative, and anticipating next steps
  • Proficiency in law department matter management systems, document management systems
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite of programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
