Position Summary

The role will be for a strong individual contributor who will be key in characterizing natural, water-soluble polymers rheologically.

Rheology would encompass all types of flow property measurements of CP Kelco carbohydrate polymers.

The role will also require a problem solver with a creative and innovative mind. 

This is a hands-on role for a rheologist or polymer chemist who has a strong knowledge of structure functional relations and polymer characterization. The role will support new product development research projects, technical service groups and process research groups.  


Principal Duties & Responsibilities
  • Expands company expertise in rheological measurements and physical testing.
  • Monitors current market trends and/or institutional practices in water-soluble polymers.
  • Creates, analyses, recommends new methods, techniques and/or processes across functions.
  • Reaches agreement by managing communications with teams with diverse interests.
  • Drives development of technical knowledge and expertise within rheology to improve CP Kelco products and solutions.
  • Provides expertise to support complex projects in area of rheological measurements and polymer behavior in complex systems such as foods, beverages, and personal/home care.
  • Recognized leader/contributor in rheological measurements and hydrocolloids.
  • Writes/reviews definitive publications of significant scientific importance
  • Liaises with legal department on patents regarding biogums and product/molecular differentiation
  • May supervise a technologist but is not a managerial position. 
  • May lead research projects
  • Writes/reviews definitive publications of significant scientific importance.
  • Will do presentations at scientific meetings, fairs and at customers.
  • Maintains strong contacts at Universities.
  • Works in a safe manner in accordance to Huber principals.
Specialized/Technical Knowledge or Required Skills
  • Advanced knowledge in rheological measurements and full knowledge of other related disciplines such as carbohydrate polymers to work on complex projects.
  • Ability to work on new and complex problems and implement innovative programs and tools accordingly
  • Ability to identify and analyze new opportunities and anticipate risks in areas of activity
  • May develop or train others on instrumentation and measurement techniques.
  • Applies technical concepts and experience to complete highly complex programs.
  • Influences the direction of development of a broad technical specialty.
  • Strong project management experience.
  • Has solid relationship Writes/reviews definitive publications of significant scientific importance.
  • Has strong contacts at Universities.
  • Will advise and support multiple projects
  • Strong knowledge of microscopy is a plus


  • PhD in chemistry or materials science focused on rheology.
  • Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in industry or academia as a rheologist.
