Job Description

 

Summary: The primary function of the Senior Payroll & Benefits Accountant will be to perform advanced level transactional payroll and benefit accounting tasks and exercise independent thought and judgment over non-routine and complex payroll, benefit and accounting issues.  Responsible for the application of advanced accounting, benefits and payroll practices and controls to ensure the timely and accurate recording (in accordance to U.S. GAAP) of payroll, statutory tax and benefit expenses; month-end labor, benefit and PTO accruals; and related G/L account reconciliation while adhering to the timelines of the monthly close cycle, strong internal controls over financial reporting, and all corporate financial policies and practices.  This position reports directly to the Manager, Financial Shared Services (FSS).

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

·         Supports the Manager, Financial Shared Services and Chief Accounting Officer with the integrity of recorded transactions and the reported financial results of the company. To ensure reported financial results adhere to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (“GAAP”), assists with the interpretation of “GAAP” as it applies to LSI and as it relates to its business practices and processes.

·         Responsible for weekly and bi-weekly compensation accounting including wage and benefit expense, statutory tax and wage and benefit accruals, and routine B/S reconciliations.

·         Will support and coordinate month-end close activities with Finance Teammates.

·         Perform general day-to-day accounting activities and ad-hoc analyses.

·         Support the audit requirements from both Internal & External auditors.

·         Will support the Financial Shared Services function to implement cross-functional and cross-departmental process automation and standardization improvements.

·         Assist with the development and measurement of the company-wide Finance key-performance indicators (KPIs).

·         Assist with the remediation of gaps in internal control identified by either internal audit or the company’s external auditors that could directly or indirectly impact the integrity of the company’s reported financial statements. Monitor the application of appropriate internal controls along with Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2003 (“SOX”) compliance.

·         Assists the Manager, Financial Shared Services and Chief Accounting Officer with various special projects and initiatives.

 

Education and/or Experience

·         Bachelor’s degree with a major in Accounting.

·         Advanced level payroll and benefit accounting experience required.

·         Knowledgeable of federal and state tax requirements, payment procedures as well as benefit programs such as health care accruals and payment, 401k withholdings and deposits, and other benefit related activities.

·         Excellent Excel spreadsheet skills required.

·         Five to ten years of experience in positions of increasing responsibility.

·         Financial Shared Services experience preferred, but not required.

·         Manufacturing environment experience, a Plus.

·         An active CPA license preferred, but not required.

·         Experience with ERP operating software, preferably JD Edwards or Oracle operating systems, a Plus.

·         Flowcharting and process documentation experience, a Plus.

·         Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
