Description

POSITION PURPOSE: Ensure alignment with Corporate Safety objectives and procedures with a goal to achieve continuous improvement. Work to reduce work related injuries/illnesses and related cost reduction strategies at the business unit level. Achieve compliance obligations with applicable safety and health standards. Point of contact for all safety-related questions and recommendations.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Identify required OSHA or Corporate Safety training requirements for all employees. Facilitate and coordinate site specific training or testing, including facilitation of new and contract employee required training. Collaborate with leaders to identify training needs, including development and implementation as needed. Conduct periodic audit of training records. Audit quality and effectiveness of all safety training.
  • Partner with line management in identifying, developing, implementing and monitoring safety policies and procedures. Identify plans for identified deficiencies and analyze to support appropriate allocation of resources to highest safety risks.
  • Manage workers' compensation and security programs. Ensure first report of injuries reported per policy. Review all incidents and assist in investigating as required. Follow up on root cause analysis and corrective actions. Manage open cases, working closely with third-party case manager and corporate resources to facilitate a return to work status.
  • Collaborate with process engineering to conduct safety assessments of new/modified equipment/processes. Develop and track statistical data for assigned locations, including recordkeeping of proactive efforts and reported incidents. Implement solutions to eliminate exposure and reduce risks. Partners with engineering in problem resolution.
  • Evaluate impact of new regulations on operations, partnering with corporate safety to implement necessary practices and interpret standards. Customize procedures and programs to fit the needs of the business, including newly developed standards.
  • Lead on-site OSHA investigations, acting as primary site interface with regulatory agencies. Support location assessments (e.g. audits, inspections, investigations, etc.) with site management to identify all non compliance issues. Drive program reviews to ensure timely corrective actions to prevent reoccurrence.
  • Work with management team on short and long-term safety strategies, goal-setting, and prioritizing. Identify, develop and initiate projects based on associate need. Implement and improve safety processes, procedures and best practices to reduce risk.

DIRECTION OF OTHERS: Lead cross-functional teams in the execution of projects, including development and deployment of safety projects and processes. Leads the Safety Committee and Ergonomics Committee.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree, Master's preferred, in industrial safety or closely related technical field.
  • Minimum 2 yrs. of progressive relevant safety experience in industrial setting or closely related field.
  • Must be experienced in application of OSHA, NFPA, NEC, ANSI and other applicable codes and regulations.
  • Demonstrate competency is machine safety design including but not limited to; machine guarding, electrical safety control devices and architecture, and ergonomic design principles.
  • Demonstrate competency in program design, implementation, performance measurement and evaluation, process improvement, and consulting skills.
  • Possess a hands-on approach with a sense of urgency, ability to manage under pressure; manage multiple priorities and projects.
  • Must be experienced in workers compensation and general health service functions as well as applicable codes and regulations.
  • Demonstrated project management skills.
  • Strong interpersonal/communication (verbal and written).
  • Assessment/evaluation skills and strong problem solving/opportunity identification.
  • Knowledge of individual/group behavior and ability to foster teamwork.
  • Customer oriented and results driven.
  • Experience with facilitation, training and coaching in small and large groups.
  • Must be able to work independently, with minimal direction.
