Commercial Insurance Rater
Cincinnati, OH, USA

Service our customers by providing high quality and timely rating by interpreting policy information received and applying premiums and codes necessary for issuing, endorsing, renewing or canceling company supported commercial lines insurance policies, according to established procedures and authority. Performs a variety of related duties including, training of new and inexperienced persons, monitoring workloads and coordinating the quality control process.

1. Processes documents and requests received for policy issuance, change, renewal, reinstatement, or cancellation, according to established procedures. Determines and calculates premiums by utilizing an automated rating system or manual calculation according to established Company procedures (includes large complex policies requiring a high level of manual rating or system proficiency) in a timely and accurate manner.

2. Effectively communicates both verbally and in writing with internal and external customers to resolve problems and obtain information needed to process policies .

3. Reviews new business, renewals and endorsements to ensure complete and accurate information has been provided to allow for successful completion of desired transaction. Refer s any items outside of their authority to underwriting or the operations supervisor or manager .

4. Assists in the training and development of Commercial Account Representatives and Specialists .

5. Assists underwriters by performing specific underwriting support functions and duties on the more complex commercial accounts such as ordering of special reports and completing account documentation.
6. Performs quality control on other peers as directed .

7. Maintains current knowledge of Business Center goals, underwriting/rating procedures and system changes. Communicates updates by assigned line of business to Operations and Underwriters including system issues, forms, procedures and processes.

8. Researches, resolves/reconciles and reports on accounting and audit discrepancies for both Group and Agency bill in a timely fashion.

9. Assists in designing, implementing and monitoring workflow improvements within Business Center.

10. Manages other projects and assignments as directed by supervisor/manager

Education and/or Experience

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) is required along with a minimum of 5 years of commercial insurance experience including hands-on experience manually rating commercial lines of business, familiarity with policy forms, coverage and classification.

Language Skills

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have strong computer skills including strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite of products and strong knowledge of internet; Excel experience must include ability to create and format spreadsheets and formulas. Must have the ability to learn other software applications quickly.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations Other Skills and Abilities

Must have a basic understanding of underwriting guidelines; strong knowledge of, and the ability to interpret manuals, rules and rating/coding procedures for the following Commercial Lines: WC, Property, IM, Umbrella, GL, Automobile and Crime.

Must have the ability to research and resolve customer inquiries/concerns.

Must have the ability to schedule meetings, set agendas and lead departmental meetings.

Must have the ability to multitask, be flexible and prioritize with strong attention to detail. Must be able to communicate in an articulate and confident manner.
